New Members on the way - we interview Ben and amy watkins

In September Ben and Amy Watkins will be leaving New Life Church in North Walsham – where they have been for many years – and will be joining Wellspring Family Church in Dereham. They will be leaving active roles New Live Church and instead of moving to Dereham they will actually be moving to Fakenham. We interview them to find out more and help members of WFC prepare to welcome them into our church family….
What have you been doing while you've been members of New Life church in North Walsham and how long have you been there? AW: I have been part of New Life Church for 14 years. During that time I have been involved in the children’s work, the worship team, and other teams on a Sunday morning. During my year out I was a part-time administrator for the church and I have also been part of the youth team for the last 3 years.
BW: I have been part of New Life Church for nine years. For nearly five years I have lead the youth team and for the last three years I have been part of the leadership team and working full time for the church. So you could say I wear many hats.
How have you been earning a living? AW: For the past two years I have been working as a teacher in a small, rural school.
BW: For the past five years I’ve been working full time for the Church. The first two years were split between Aylsham and North Walsham; the last three I’ve been full time at North Walsham. A year and a half ago, I decided to start a graphic design business to increase our independent earning potential, fuel my interests and develop my creative streak.
How do you like to spend your free-time and what are your interests? Our interests include, movies, eating, walking, swimming, reading and listening to music; so in our free time, we like to go to the cinema, walk round country parks and eat good food!
I hear that you will actually be moving to Fakenham, not Dereham; why is that? For a long time God has laid on our hearts the desire to be involved in planting churches. So we for the last few years at New Life we’ve been learning and maturing so we can see this desire come about. So when Jon approached us about helping out in Dereham and Fakenham we thought it best to move to Fakenham as that is where we would like to see a church planted.
What do you like about Fakenham and what would you like to see change there? We have only been to the town a few times, but have been impressed by the amount and range of shops and the fact it has a cinema. However the is no swimming pool yet, so one with flumes and a rubber ring ride would be cool.
What is your favourite food and music? AW: I love Chinese food, chips and roast dinners. My favourite music at the moment is all albums coming out of Jesus Culture and the Bethel Church in Redding.
BW: My favorite food would be roast dinner and curry, although not together. As for music I have a bit of an eclectic taste, so it can change from month to month but if push came to shove I would go for Leftism by Leftfield.
What do you most look forward to? Buying our own home, developing new friendships in Fakenham and Dereham and seeing the churches grow. Ben would like to write a book and is looking forward to purchasing an iPad.
